Special details on the vehicle registration document

The indication of a specific use for the vehicle (example: collector, agricultural, military, etc.) can be added to your vehicle registration document if you transmit a document proving this use.

In most cases, you should request to add these details of use when you acquire the vehicle, i.e. when you apply for your vehicle registration document, either electronically via the French Ministry for the Interior site or through an authorized automotive professional.

Once this specific use is no longer required, these details are removed from your vehicle registration document.

Please note, the procedure hereinafter is specifically for adding a specific use or special details when you already own your vehicle.

If you wish to add a specific use or special details when you buy or acquire a vehicle, you must use the online "I've bought or acquired a used vehicle".

What do you need to do?

To apply to the French Ministry for the Interior to add or remove an indication of use
irrespective of change of ownership:

  1. Log on to the ANTS (France Titres) site using FranceConnect,
  2. Click the blue "Registration" button,
  3. Select the "Make another request" option, then "Start the online procedure",
  4. Select the "Declare a change in the status of my vehicle" section, then choose "Change to specific use or special details for the vehicle (collector, agricultural, military, health, administrative, etc.)",
  5. Transmit all supporting documents that correspond to your situation digitally. For optimal processing, check that your supporting documents are legible and of an acceptable size (1MB max. per document),
  6. Tick the consent boxes to complete the procedure once the application has been checked by the Ministry for the Interior.

Once your application has been sent, you will need to wait until the department in charge of your application answers you. This may take from a few days to a few weeks.

We advise you to log back onto your space regularly to track the progress of your application:

  • The "under review" status means that your application is currently being analysed by the department in question and you should wait until you hear back from them.
  • The "to be completed" status means that the registration officer needs information or a document to continue analysing your application; we urge you to respond quickly to their request.
  • The "pending payment" status means that the registration officer is asking you to pay the costs related to your procedure. Please note that payment is not systematic and depends on the type of application; payment can only be made by credit card.
  • Finally, the "application refused" status means that your application has been refused by the registration officer, who will inform you of the reasons for this.

The vehicle registration document (carte grise) is sent to the address specified on the provisional registration document (CPI) and which was entered in the Vehicle Registration System (SIV).

If this address is incorrect, you will not receive the postal letter.

You will need to carry out an additional procedure to request for your address to be corrected:

  1. Log on to FranceConnect
  2. Click "Registration"
  3. Select the "Make another request" option
  4. Select the "Declare a mistake on my vehicle registration document or on my vehicle's administrative status" category, then select the sub-category that corresponds to your situation.
  5. Transmit your supporting documents digitally
  6. Tick the consent boxes
