The holder of the vehicle registration document (carte grise) may choose to withdraw their vehicle from circulation. This withdrawal suspends the vehicle's authorization to be driven on public roads.

For the vehicle to be put back on the road, you must apply for the withdrawal to be lifted.

As such, the vehicle registration document (carte grise) is temporarily withdrawn from its holder. The vehicle will then be subject to an inspection to see if it must be permanently withdrawn from circulation or if it can be repaired. In most cases, the withdrawal is lifted automatically following a report drafted by an automotive expert.

If you choose to have your vehicle destroyed, in particular if it is a car, a van or a two-wheeler, you must hand it over to an authorized ELV centre (end-of-life vehicles), then declare the disposal for destruction to the French Ministry for the Interior. In most cases, this declaration can be directly registered at the ELV centre that accepts your vehicle.

If you wish to complete a procedure, via the French Ministry for the Interior, related to a vehicle that has been declared dangerous or to be destroyed:
