Lost papers
Can't find all or some of your official papers? Don't panic, we'll explain what to do.
- Make sure your papers are truly lost
Give yourself 48 hours to find them. Once you’ve applied for renewal, your old documents will be flagged and rendered permanently invalid. If you find them later, return them to the issuing authority and do not use them.
- Protect your banking information
If your credit or debit card is also lost, contact your bank as soon as possible to stop it from being used fraudulently.
There is a charge for renewing your papers. Make sure you have received your new card before you start the process.
- Make an inventory of what papers were lost
Take a moment to recall the contents of the wallet or bag you can no longer find. Each document will then need to be applied for separately.
- You can apply to renew your identity card, passport, driving licence and vehicle registration document (carte grise) on the ANTS website
- You can order a new Carte Vitale (health insurance card) from your Ameli account at www.ameli.fr
- Ask for your missing papers to be re-issued
Your identity documents should be urgently re-issued, as proof of identity is required for certain official documents (driving licence, health insurance card, etc.)
