Change of address
For any change of address, you have 1 month to declare your new address on your vehicle registration document.
The procedure is the same for all types of registration (new XX-123-XX plates and old 123 XX 50 plates).
You can request a change of address directly online.
A change of address is free unless:
- This is your 4th change of address: €2.76
- You have an old number plate (123 XX 50): €2.76
Supporting documents for online applications
- For new registrations: A FranceConnect account or the confidential code from the vehicle registration document
- For old registrations: The date of issue of the vehicle registration document and the registrant's date of birth
If you areleasing, you must contact the lessor to make the change.
How do I apply online?
- Step 1: Create your ANTS account or log in with FranceConnect
- Step 2: Click on “New Request”
- Step 3: Select the "Changing the address on your vehicle registration certificate” option
- Step 4: Follow the instructions
- Step 5: Download your registration confirmation
When you have finished, you will receive a registration confirmation, at the e-mail address in your account, indicating that your request has been taken into account.
You should fix your situation as soon as possible, as you could be fined €135 if you are stopped.
To find out more before you start, see the article entitled "Changing the address on my vehicle registration certificate".
- When the vehicle is already registered in the SIV, following the declaration of a change of address if the vehicle is already registered in the SIV system, the user will receive a self-adhesive change-of-address label to affix to the vehicle registration certificate.
This allows users to keep their registration certificate, up to a limit of three change-of-address declarations for the same vehicle. The user will receive this label by post, via ordinary mail.
- If the vehicle is still registered under the old system, a new carte grise will be produced and sent by expert letter (with signature confirmation).
You have one month to report your change of address, even if it was the municipal government that changed the name of the street.
There are two possible scenarios:
- if your vehicle is already registered in the SIV:
- you'll receive a label to stick on your certificate free of charge,
- if the vehicle is registered in the old FNI system:
- your vehicle will receive a new SIV number at the same time. You will therefore have to pay the delivery charge for your new vehicle registration document (€2.76) and affix new plates to your vehicle.
Yes.
You have moved within the same town (or on the same street), and your vehicle is already registered in SIV format. Even if you do not have to change your vehicle's number plates, this is a change of address that you must declare within one month.
You can do this online.
Yes, this is normal if your vehicle was registered under the old system in the format: 123 ZA 76.
The Vehicle Registration System (SIV) was introduced on 15 October 2009.
When a registrant moves house or a vehicle changes registrant, they receive a new registration in the ZZ-123-ZZ format and are gradually integrated into this new system. The number is permanently assigned to the vehicle until it is destroyed.
