Decrees

• Concerning vehicle registration:

  • Decree no.2011-477 of 2 May 2011 on the procedures for objecting to the re-use of information contained in the vehicle registration system for commercial purposes. 

  • Decree no. 2009-497 of 30 April 2009 relating to the receipt and type approval of vehicles and amending the highway code. 

  • Decree no.2009-136 of 9 February 2009 various provisions relating to plates and inscriptions, receipt, type approval, and vehicle registration.

• Concerning damages vehicles:

  • Decree no.2011-153 of 4 February 2011 various provisions relating to adapting EU law with respect to managing end-of-life vehicles and waste electrical and electronic equipment.

• Concerning the re-use of vehicle registration system data:

  • The European Directive of 17 November 2003 harmonises the conditions for re-use of public sector information in the European Union.
    As a result, the law of 17 July 1978, amended on 20 April 2009, concerning various measures to improve relations between the government and the public, provides for the possibility of making information held by the government available to public or private persons for purposes other than those for which it was collected.

    With regard to the vehicle registration system (SIV), article L.330-5 of the French Highway Code introduces a specific re-use system (see Ministry of the Interior website)
