Vehicle registration fees

05/07/24

At the beginning of each year, the amount of fees charged for registering a vehicle can change as a result of the regional tax set by the regional council and the Finance Act in force.

Regulations

The fees displayed when you create your online procedure or the information collected on fees at the end of the year are given for information purposes only.

The exact and definitive amount of fees to be paid corresponds to the date of issue of your vehicle registration document, i.e. when you pay the registration fees (https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/codes/article_lc/LEGIARTI000044603237/2022-07-2).

How much will my vehicle registration document cost?

Below are the various fees shown on vehicle registration documents:

  • Y1 fee: This is the regional tax (depending on your home address).
  • Y2 fee: Tax on transport vehicles.

This tax applies to commercial vehiclesand is levied in addition to the regional tax (Y1) on the issue of vehicle registration certificates for goods road transport vehicles, road tractors and public passenger transport vehicles.

  • Y3 fee: Tax on the most polluting passenger vehicles (passenger cars, pick-ups). This tax has two components: First, a tax on carbon dioxide emissions ("CO2 Malus"), and secondly, a tax on mass in working order ("Malus Poids").

The CO2 penalty is calculated either on the basis of the vehicle's carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre (if the vehicle has EC type-approval), or on the basis of its tax rating (if the vehicle has another kind of type-approval: national or individual).

The Malus Poids has been in force since 01/01/2022.

  • Y4 fee: A fixed fee of €11.
  • Y5 fee: Fee for transporting the certificate (€2.76).
  • Y6: Total amount of fees (Y1 to Y5).

A simulator has been set up by the Legal and Administrative Information Office to cover the majority of simple transactions recorded in the SIV.
