At the beginning of each year, the amount of fees charged for registering a vehicle can change as a result of the regional tax set by the regional council and the Finance Act in force.

How much will my vehicle registration document cost?

Below are the various fees shown on vehicle registration documents:

• Y1 fee: This is the regional tax (depending on your home address).
• Y2 fee: Tax on transport vehicles.

This tax applies to commercial vehiclesand is levied in addition to the regional tax (Y1) on the issue of vehicle registration certificates for goods road transport vehicles, road tractors and public passenger transport vehicles.

• Y3 fee: Tax on the most polluting passenger vehicles (passenger cars, pick-ups). This tax has two components: First, a tax on carbon dioxide emissions ("CO2 Malus"), and secondly, a tax on mass in working order ("Malus Poids").

The CO2 penalty is calculated either on the basis of the vehicle's carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre (if the vehicle has EC type-approval), or on the basis of its tax rating (if the vehicle has another kind of type-approval: national or individual).

 

The Malus Poids has been in force since 01/01/2022.

• Y4 fee: A fixed fee of €11.
• Y5 fee: Fee for transporting the certificate (€2.76).
• Y6: Total amount of fees (Y1 to Y5).
