Following several weeks of successful pilot runs with France Identité app beta-testers, FranceConnect authentication without reading your ID card has now been rolled out for everyone. This new method of authenticating is based on unlocking your smartphone using fingerprint, facial recognition, Android schema or lock code.

  1. Select France Identité to authenticate on your procedure via FranceConnect
  2. Scan the QR code displayed on your France Identité app screen (or click the link if you are using your phone)
  3. Use your phone's unlock mode
  4. You are now authenticated on your procedure.

Quick and easy to set up

To take advantage of this new feature, open your France Identité app and:

  1. Update your app.
  2. Click the "The app is changing" notification.
  3. Follow the set-up steps:
    • Scan your CAN (card access number)
    • Launch NFC reading of your ID card (once only)
    • Set up your smartphone unlock mode.

  1.     Click "start" in the "the app is changing" box
  2.     Read the CAN on your ID card
  3.     Launch NFC reading of your ID card
  4.     Click unlock
  5.     Link your smartphone unlock mode
  6.     Now, you're ready to go

Great benefits

This new way of authenticating offers a host of benefits:

  • Practical: you no longer need your credentials to access the 1,800 services available via FranceConnect.
  • Easy-to-use: eliminating the need to read ID cards using NFC avoids potential malfunctions.
  • Fast: a streamlined, intuitive user experience.

This new way of authenticating integrates double security: ownership (your smartphone) and biometric (your fingerprint or other).

Important to know when using France Identité without reading your ID card:

  • If you use France Identité on several smartphones, you will need to repeat this set-up procedure on all your devices.
  • If your digital identity is deleted, this feature will be deleted from all your devices.

Please note: Authenticating via FranceConnect+ for some services (MonCompteFormation (My training account), INPI (French National Institute of Industrial Property), MaPrimeRénov (French State energy renovation aid)) still requires you to read your credit card-sized ID card via NFC.
