A duplicate is an identical reproduction of the original registration certificate (the “primata”). It has all the same features as the registration certificate (CI), meets the same security requirements, and is produced by the Imprimerie Nationale and sent by post to the registrant's address. However, it differs from the original certificate in that items Z.1 to Z.4 are printed with the words "Duplicate + date of duplicate".
Since 15 October 2009, any request for a duplicate of a vehicle registered with the old FNI number must be converted to the new SIV system. The vehicle is given a new number in the format ZZ-123-ZZ.
In the event of loss, theft or damage, the amount of the fees is due (unit rate of the regional fee + management fee) as well as the transport fees.
If you find your lost vehicle registration document after applying for a duplicate, you will not be able to cancel the procedure.
Once the procedure has been completed, the new vehicle registration document (duplicate) is produced. The located vehicle registration document (known as a “primata”) is then invalidated and you must destroy it.
