Contrôle technique
If you do not have your vehicle registration document and need to take your MOT test, you must provide a Vehicle Identification Document (FIV).
This Vehicle Identification Document (FIV) sums up the technical characteristics of your vehicle and can be used to carry out some administrative procedures, such as the MOT test.
This document cannot be used for driving your vehicle on the road.
How can you obtain it?
You need to apply for it online.
If you require help, you can go to a digital contact point with your supporting documents, where a person will help you carry out the procedure.
To carry out this procedure:
- Log in to your ANTS (France Titres) account (using your ANTS (France Titres) credentials or log on via FranceConnect)
- Go to your dashboard and click "Registration"
- Choose the "Obtain a vehicle identification document" procedure.
NB: When you log on via FranceConnect, you do not need to enter a confidential code if you are carrying out the procedure for yourself.
If there is no room left on your vehicle registration document (carte grise) for the MOT test sticker, you must apply for a re-issue of the document (not a duplicate).
To apply for this:
- Log on to FranceConnect
- Click "Registration"
- Select the "Make another request" section, then select "Make another request" again, then "I am unable to apply for a duplicate using the "Redo my vehicle registration document" online procedure"
- Explain your situation in the "explain your request to the Registration Department" box
- Transmit your supporting documents digitally
- Tick the consent boxes
If your vehicle is registered under the old FNI (French National Registration File) system, then it will be assigned a new number at the same time.
Once your application has been sent, you will need to wait until the department in charge of your application answers you. This may take from a few days to a few weeks.
We advise you to log back onto your space regularly to track the progress of your application.
- The "under review" status means that your application is currently being analysed by the department in question and you should wait until you hear back from them.
- The "to be completed" status means that the registration officer needs information or a document to continue analysing your application; we urge you to respond quickly to their request.
- The "pending payment" status means that the registration officer is asking you to pay the costs related to your procedure. Please note that payment is not systematic and depends on the type of application; payment can only be made by credit card.
- Finally, the "application refused" status means that your application has been refused by the registration officer, who will inform you of the reasons for this.
